3. Sven (Swan) Persson Wennblom (1862-1945) Sven Persson was born to Bengta Mattisdotter and Per Carlsson on April 3, 1862
in Mölleryd, Vånga, Kristianstads län. When he was nine, his mother died. A year or two later, his father married Karna (Carrie)
Pierson. Three more children were added to the family. In 1879 Sven was a farmhand for Nils Andersson at Tegelstorp 2, Vånga.
On March 24, 1881, he left for North America from Mölleryd, Vånga, Kristianstads län, under the name of Sven Pehrsson. He
apparently went via Chicago to Vasa Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota where his mother’s sister, Malena Mattisdotter
Johnson, and her family had settled. Sven’s brother and sister, Carl and Hanna, followed the
next year, and the rest of the family immigrated to that area in 1886. When his father, Per Carlsson, added the surname
“Wennblom” to his name, Sven did the same, and Anglicized “Sven” to “Swan.” Records show he went by S.P. Wennblom. In
February 1890, Swan, a naturalized U.S. citizen by then, sailed on the “Lucania,” a ship of the Cunard line, from New York to
Liverpool, England, and from there on another ship to Sweden. While he was there he apparently courted and married Thilda
Hokanson (may have been Häkansson in Sweden and was sometimes Hawkinson in America). They were both thirty-eight at the
time. They left Sweden on October 30, 1900 from the port of Malmö for Liverpool, and from there sailed on the “Lucania” back to
New York, with their destination Chicago. Probably they went by train north to Minnesota. Swan and Thilda lived and farmed in
Cannon Falls Township in Goodhue County, Minnesota. They were
the parents of Anna Helen Victoria Wennblom (born 1902) and Bertle W. Wennblom (born 1903). Thilda died on March 27,
1935 and is buried in the Cannon Falls Community Cemetery in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Sven died on January 7, 1945, and
is buried with her. Sources: Vånga C:11 pg. 8 Household Examination Roll, pg. 180 UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
